Chinese New Year celebrated in Welshpool

24/02/2026 @ 06:51

The members of Welshpool Inner Wheel Club held a double celebration in February, by marking Chinese New Year and the 90th birthday of their longest serving member.

Chinese New Year (The year of the Horse) was marked by Vice President, Mrs Margaret Pepper, distributing red and gold gift envelopes. Members wore traditional celebration red to welcome the fire Horse and bring good luck.

President Wendy Beaven presented Mrs Olive Williams (pictured in blue) with flowers for her 90th on behalf of the club and members congratulated her on her longevity, and service to the club and the community. A short business meeting ended the festivities.

The District Chairman will attend the next meeting at the Royal Oak in March.

Meanwhile, Rotary Club of Welshpool held the February Business meeting at the Royal Oak Hotel. President, Bill Rowell, gave a brief resume of the programme for the rest of his term in office.

Members were joined by Aggie Titley from Welshpool Town Council who outlined the Community Fridge initiative which had been launched earlier in the week.

The next meeting will take place tomorrow (Wednesday) when a representative of the Feathers Club will attend.
