There was some long-awaited good news provided by a county councillor at this week’s full Town Council meeting concerning the 'back road', supported by more information provided by a second county councillor last night.

Cllr Richard Church was providing an update on county council news to town councillors when he added: “Just so everybody is aware, work will start on resurfacing Brook Street and Union Street along its entire length in February. I think it will be very welcome news.

“I was originally told it was going to be done in the autumn but sadly it wasn’t, but now I have been told it is February.”

The news was warmly welcomed with Cllr Nick Howells stating: “It is a nightmare at the moment.”

Meanwhile, county councillor Graham Breeze, provided another update online stating that the work will start on the first stretch of the ‘back road’ from February 16-20 with the road to close between between 8am-5pm.

“The area to be closed will stretch from Raven Roundabout to Jehu Road,” he said. “Diversions will be in place with access allowed for emergency vehicles and residents. Further resurfacing from Jehu Road to Church Street Junction is being delayed until a later date to allow for essential underground utilities replacement.”
