“Lessons can be learned” from carnival

While this month’s Carnival was widely regarded as a well-organised event, the Town Mayor has called for better planning to bring back the crowds.

Cllr Phil Owen was speaking at the latest Welshpool Town Council monthly meeting and while describing the annual celebration as a “success”, he said planning for next year needs to start earlier.

“I think there are some lessons that we can learn for next year, assuming there will be a next year,” he said. “And one of those is forward planning. We need to invest a little more time in planning these things more in advance than we currently do. It’s nobody’s fault at all, it’s just the way it happened.

“Thanks to the staff and councillors. Thank you all. I think it was a success.”

Crowds were well down on previous years, but the threat of rain that didn’t materialise until mid-afternoon didn’t help.

The parade was also shorter than normal, with the parade only including one lorry.
