Turning the top half of Berriew Street Car Park into a housing estate has still not been ruled out, after the area was highlighted at a Town Council meeting last night.
Welshpool Powys county councillor, Graham Breeze, was sharing updates from County Hall with town councillors at a full Town Council meeting when he was asked by Cllr Phil Pritchard, himself a former county councillor, about an update on previous discussions about the car park's future.
“We did question (previously) why keep the top half of the (Berriew Street) car park as it’s never used and it is always empty no matter what day it is?” asked Cllr Pritchard. “So, there are places that can be built on quite comfortably in Welshpool that have been mentioned before.”
Cllr Breeze replied that the new Land Development Plan (LDP) that is still under review includes the car park as a potential housing site.
“There are certainly talks going on around that area, so it hasn’t gone away,” he said.
Building land in and around Welshpool is becoming in short supply, but several spots have been included in a draft LDP.
