Organisers of the Welshpool 1940s Weekend are urging the town’s businesses to back the event to ensure it can go ahead again this September.
The event has continued to grow in popularity over the last few years with visitors travelling in from across the UK to enjoy a weekend of nostalgia and timeless entertainment.
But with rising costs placing a growing challenge on the enthusiastic band of volunteers that pull it together, there is a call for the town’s businesses to unite behind the event, or it could be lost.
“The Welshpool 1940s weekend is a unique three-day festival of one of the most iconic decades in history, recognising, celebrating and commemorating the trials and tribulations of the era,” said Alan Crowe, one of the lead organisers.
“This is a significant occasion in the Welshpool calendar and, as with all such undertakings, takes a great deal of volunteer time and funding to ensure its success.
“With free access for visitors from near and far, money to stage the event can only be found through fund-raising, trade stands and sponsorship.
“To this end we are making a big push in 2025 to secure sufficient pledges of support to make sure the 1940s weekend can go ahead.
“Our fundamental principle is to keep attendance at the festival free, which means that more and more visitors can be attracted giving sponsors increased exposure. We are careful not to invite food stalls to the trade stand line up, so that Welshpool vendors can benefit from the significant passing trade.”
