More details revealed over Railway Carpark mystery

More meat has been added to the bones regarding the mystery short-term future of Welshpool Railway Station Carpark.

Yesterday, we were told by Transport for Wales that the carpark would be closed until March 5 for work that would pave the way for the location to be used for something else in future.

And today, Network Rail has confirmed that the carpark will also be closed from March 17-April 2 due to it being used for a rail replacement bus service pick-up point.

This is because work is being carried out on the track during that time meaning trains will not run.

“As previously advised, Network Rail will be undertaking essential track maintenance and vegetation clearance on the Cambrian Line between March 17 and April 2. During these works, buses will replace trains,” said a spokesperson.

“Please note that the Transport for Wales rail carpark at Welshpool Railway station will be closed just ahead of and during these works, as it will be used as a rail replacement pick-up point. The carpark is currently closed until March 5 to enable works to the carpark which will allow buses to enter and leave the carpark.”

The carpark has become a bone of contention in recent times due to the amount of workers in the town parking there for free, leaving little space for genuine rail passengers.
