What’s down the line for railway station car park?

Work is being undertaken at Welshpool Railway Station car park over the next week, and there are question marks over its future use.

The car park has become a controversial topic in recent years with workers based in the town using it daily, leaving little space for fed up rail users.

But it’s future may see it used for a different reason at times with Transport for Wales confirming that “the work is to future proof access required for planned track maintenance”.

A spokesperson told us: “Work was planned to take place from Sunday, February 23, but unfortunately due to vehicles remaining in the car park we have had to extend the work timeline and the car park will now reopen on Wednesday, March 5.”

The Welshpool Rail Users Group on Facebook regularly debates the problems caused by town centre workers taking advantage of the free parking.
