Welshpool Food Bank and The Montgomeryshire Family Crisis Centre are among the groups and charities to have received a share of £3,000 in funding from a local union branch.

The UNITE union's Mid Wales branch has donated funding to several groups throughout north Powys.

Harry Sillitoe, Branch Chairman, said: “At the end of every year the local trade union branch of UNITE tries to help organisations who help others by providing donations to fund their important work.

"Members at the local branch meeting decide which organisations the branch supports and this year they have provided over £3,000 to community organisations who support the community we live in."

He added: "There was strong support for the Foodbanks in Machynlleth, Welshpool, Newtown and Bishops Castle. Branch members were very grateful for the support and service that the Foodbanks provide each week of the year, week in, week out."

The Branch has donated annually to the Montgomeryshire Family Crisis Centre. This year a further donation was made to the Welshpool Integrated Family Centre at the recommendation of one member.

He added: "The branch members once again chose to support an animal charity and this time chose the RSPCA, Branch members also had a very warm welcome at the Men’s Shed in Llanfyllin and made a donation to help with their costs as they provide a great social meeting point and an opportunity to exercise past skills and learn new ones.

“We would like to sincerely thank all the people who work and who volunteer throughout the year to make people’s lives better in Mid Wales. Whether it is making sure people are safe, have enough to eat or by adding that bit of sparkle to a child’s Christmas. Everything you do helps someone, and all of that effort adds up to a whole lot more good in this part of the Wales. Thank you. Diolch yn fawr iawn."
