What do you want Welshpool when it comes to concerts?

As Welshpool continues to build its reputation as an ‘events town’, residents will be asked what concerts and acts they want to see in 2025.

Abba, Tina Turner, Take That, Rod Stewart and Cher are all tribute acts that are being looked at after another year of popular events held in the Town Hall involving the Town Council.

At this week’s Events and Tourism Committee meeting, councillors were handed a list of various tribute acts and prices that could be booked.

But Cllr Megan Bailey said that it should be up to the residents to decide.

“I would like to suggest that we hold a snap survey to ask what people want,” said Cllr Bailey. “It shouldn’t just be about what we want. If it was being done commercially, there would be focus groups and the like to ask what they want.”

The recent Anthems of Rock night at the Town Hall was deemed another success and Cllr Nick Howells floated the idea of doing an 80s or 90s disco night.

Councillors agreed to run the snap survey on social media before their next meeting in December, with Cllr Billy Spencer, himself an entertainer, advising councillors that they should not just go for the cheapest options when booking acts.
