Police clamp down on anti-social behaviour

12/11/2024 @ 10:11

A Dispersal Order has been implemented in Newtown following increased reports of anti-social behaviour affecting residents and local businesses.

Dyfed Powys Police said it had made the order in response to incidents involving groups of youths causing harassment and distress across several popular locations.

Dyfed-Powys Police have enforced the order from Monday, November 11, through to 9pm on Wednesday, November 13.

The areas affected include Newtown skate park, Newtown High School, McDonald’s, Broad Street, Wesley Street, and other parts of the Newtown East ward. The Dispersal Order grants police the authority to move individuals believed to be causing a nuisance out of these areas, aiming to reduce the recent disturbances.

“We want to reassure the community that we’re taking these reports seriously,” a Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said. “The Dispersal Order is designed to help prevent further harassment and maintain safety in public spaces.”

Local officers encourage residents to remain vigilant and report any further instances of anti-social behaviour. Parents are urged to stay informed about their children’s whereabouts and activities during this period.

Residents can report incidents online via Dyfed-Powys Police, by emailing 101@dyfed-powys.police.uk, or by calling 101.
