Emergency services have responded this evening to an incident on the Cambrian Line that is expected to impact rail services going into the morning with the line currently closed.

A joint statement from Network Rail and Transport for Wales confirmed that the 6.31pm Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth train and the 7.09pm service from Machynlleth to Shrewsbury were involved near Llanbrynmair.

“The line is closed as they carry out their work,” the statement reads. “Our main priority is the safety of our passengers and colleagues, and we are doing all we can to support the emergency services as they respond to the incident.

“We would encourage passengers to plan ahead and check journeys before travelling via National Rail Enquiries.”

Dyfed-Powys Police has closed the main A470 trunk road in Talerddig and advised drivers to avoid the area. A coastguard helicopter is also at the scene, as well as firefighters.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to reports of a train accident at 7.34pm.

British Transport Police is understood to be in charge of the incident, and have said it was a "low speed collision".
