Newtown road open, but floods are getting worse

16/10/2024 @ 04:39

The A483 road to Newtown has reopened following a brief closure for a broken-down vehicle this afternoon, but rush hour traffic is going to be tricky for motorists heading home.

And the advice is to stay in tonight unless absolutely essential with readers reporting that many of the usual trouble spots are already impassable due to rising water levels.

More than 16 hours of rain has relentlessly fallen since last night, and is expected to continue into the evening before stopping by around midnight, meaning we could still be facing problems in the morning.

Rivers and brooks are rapidly rising but the good news is that tomorrow is expected to be a largely dry day so the disruptions shouldn’t be long term.

The official Met Office yellow weather warning is in place until 9pm tonight.
