Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a lively auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.
OTMS (58)
An entry of 58 over thirty month cattle realised an average of 122.78ppkg, and 128.84pppkg for the younger cows. A Charolais cow weighing 877kg from Roberts & Jones, Parc, made £1227.80. Therefore Roberts & Jones receives the Briarwood Products LTD prize of £25 for highest priced OTM on the day. A Limousin cow weighing 784kg from J E Evans & Son, Middle Nantserth, made £1097.60.
A younger British Blue cow weighing 824kg making £1186.56 presented by G Jones & Son, Yr Ogof.
A under 48 months Limousin heifer weighing 689kg from R I Owen, Cwmffynnon, made £1088.62. A Charolais OTM bull weighing 1066kg from R J Lewis, Nantygelli, made £1332.50.
PRIME CATTLE(7)
An entry of 7 prime cattle saw a top price of 240ppkg from G Bound & Son, Cefn Bach, for a Limousin heifer weighing 512kg. Therefore Mr Bound receives the Briarwood Products Prize of £25 for the highest price fat beast on the day. Also from the same home was another Limousin heifer weighing 500kg making 239ppkg.

CULL EWE (1931)
An entry of 1931 culls resulted in averages for the ewes of £66.51 and £85.18 for the rams. CL & C Watkins, Bank Farm, had the top price for a single cull ewes at £117. Another cull ewe from Herbert Bros, Penlan, made £115. A pen of two cull rams from K Davies, Rhydyfydrwydd, made £129. P Bailey & Sons, Plas Newydd, presented one cull ewe making £125.
Weekly sale of cull sheep to follow immediately after the sale of prime lambs at approx 12 noon.
STORE LAMBS
Couples: A smaller entry of 336 couples to last week which was met with a strong trade. The top price of the day was achieved by H C Davies for texel hoggs with single lambs at foot selling to £222 or £102 a life. Bought forward by M J & J M Price, Penycrug Farm, were a strong pen of 9 mule hoggs with single lambs at foot knocked down for £204 04 £102 a life.
Other highlights include texel 2 and 3 year old ewes coming from Powys Poultry sod to £188. Also 3 and 4 year old mules with twin lambs at foot presented by I W Edwards, Bryn-y-Orsedd, achieved a price of £180 or £60 a life.
As found Texel ewes with twin lambs at foot forward from G M Lewis & Son, Caermynydd, achieved £140 or £36 a life. Other as found half bred organic ewes with twin lambs at foot forward from EN & EJ Davies & Son, Llettyifanhen, came to £136 or £45 a life.
Same again next week with ewes and lambs followed with hoggs and lambs finishing with the sale of cade lambs.
COWS & CALVES
An entry of 48 Cows and calves including 9 in-calf heifers met with a sound trade. Top price achieved for a pure bred Limousin in calf heifer making £1490 from F D Lloyd & Son, Bedwgwilym, also from the same home were 7 other in calf heifers. A Limousin 1st calver with a Limousin bull calf at foot made £2550 from DP Evans, Moel-y-Garth Farm. Presented by RP & SE Wilde, Middle Sylfaen, was a British Blue X cow with a Lim X heifer calf at foot which made £1490.
A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £2000 + 4 lots; £1800 - £2000 6 lots; £1600-£1800 6 lots; £1400-£1600 7 lots; £1200-£1400 7 lots; < £1200 17 lots.
