OTMS (82)

An increased entry of 82 over thirty month old cattle sold very well to average 133ppkg for the older cows, 151ppkg for the older bulls, 151ppkg for the younger cows. Heifers and steers sold to average 170ppkg and 189ppkg. E H Pennie & Son Gwern y Ychain sold two limousin cows to a top price of £1588 and £1353.24. A Charolais cow also from E H Pennie & Son achieved £1330.99. A British Blue bull from E M Tilsley Llandinier weighed 1030kg sold for £2193.80. FAT CATTLE (12)

An entry of 12 fat cattle sold to average 219ppkg for the steers and 213ppkg  for the heifers. Evans Brothers sold four Limousinx steers to 228ppkg, 222ppkg, 218ppkg and 210ppkg. ED & ER Davies Marton Hall sold three Limousinx heifers to 220ppkg, 215ppkg and 220ppkg. Evans Brothers Tynewyddreceives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day. Weekly sale of Fat cattle every Monday commence at approximately 12.30pm. More Fat Cattle urgently required to meet a very strong demand from potential purchasers. Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (1022) to 209ppkg from FG & G Mountford Middle Heldre & A I Watkins Maesywennol. Others to 206ppkg from FG & G Mountford Middle Heldre. Average of 190ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (1188) to 240ppkg from G Ratcliffe Whixall Hall. Others to 235ppkg fromLythwood Sheep Ltd. Average of 211ppkg.

An entry of 1083 spring lambs, selling to an overall average of 268ppkg.

Super Lights (17.5kg to 25kg) (2) to 246ppkg from H Hughes & Son Hendy. Average of 246ppkg.

Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (28) to 300ppkg from Bowen & Bowen Penthryn. Others to 285ppkg from EG & AW Pugh Cefn. Average of 279ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (436) to 332ppkg from J Corfield & Sons Fairfiled. Others to 308ppkg fromMG & MN Hanselman Knapps Farm. Average of 271ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (586) to 292ppkg from T C Evans Caegwyn. Others to 289ppkg from E J Rowley Penthryn. Average of 266ppkg.  

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (30) to 260ppkg from E R Harris Reilth Farm. Others to 257ppkg from H G Ellis & Co Tynywern. Average of 254ppkg.

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (1) to 226ppkg from R & R Powell Broniarth. Average of 226ppkg.

CULL EWE (1483)

An entry of 1483 cull sheep on offer for sale today, sold to average £49.05 for the ewes and £70.67 for the rams. Top price of the day for the ewes was £111 per head from TD & MJ Orrells & Son Middle Llegodig. Top price for the cull rams was £122 per head from TWG Davies Penygraig. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat lambs at approximately 12noon.  

STORE LAMBS, COUPLES & CADE LAMBS.

A small entry of store lambs. Mixed and clean lambs achieved £25 from Thomas Brothers, tup lambs also achieving £25 from the same home.

An entry of 19 cade lambs achieved a top price of £20 from Messers Gittins & Co Giants Bank. Achieving a total average of £12.26.

An entry of 600 ewes with lambs achieving an average of 110.45. Top price of £245 was achieved for strong Texel yearling ewes with twin lambs at foot from P I Bowen Glanwantyn. Sale of Store lambs to commence outside at 10.30am, with the ewes and lambs and cade lambs to follow.

COWS & CALVES

A catalogue sale of cows and calves took place at Welshpool Livestock Sale on Monday 13th May. Thetrade was similar to a week ago with buyers are still very cautious in purchasing due to the lack of grass. D P Evans Moel y Garth sold three Limousin 1st calver with Limousin calves at foot to £1920, £1920 and £1900. E E Powell & Son Cilpentre sold a Limousin 1st Calver with a Limousin bull calf at foot for £1920.

An entry Next Monday of 35 Cows and Calves next Monday to include two Charolais Bulls 3½ year old and 7 year old. Sale to commence at 11.30am.
