Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (15)

Due to the terrible weather conditions only 15 Over Thirty Month Old Cattle forward sold to average 132ppkg overall. The older cows averaged 130ppkg, the younger cows averaged 154ppkg and the two young bulls averaged 138ppg. A Limousin cow weighing 749kg sold to a top price of £1101.03 from W Pugh Parc Farm. DR & MC Hughes Lower Gwernypwll sold a Charolais cow weighing 688kg and making £1032.00. A younger Limousin cow sold for £1368.90 from W Pugh Parc Farm. W Pugh Parc Farm receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. FAT CATTLE (9)

Nine fat cattle sold to average 236ppkg for the steers and 238ppkg for the heifers. GW & BA Haynes Trefnant Isaf sold four heifers to 245ppkg, 243ppkg, 234ppkg and 231ppkg. Presented by D R Owen & Sons Sandilands where four steers which achieved 238ppkg, 236ppkg(x2), 234ppkg and a heifer to 237ppkg. GW & BA Haynes Trefnant Isaf receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day. An entry of  37 Spring Lambs, sold to an overall average of 288ppkg.

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (2) to 248ppkg from J & J Beavan & Sons Winsbury. Average of 248ppkg. 

CULL EWE (938)

An entry of 938 cull sheep on offer for sale today, sold to average £56.54 for the ewes and £74.14 for the rams. Top price of the day for the ewes was £125 per head from P & CE Davies The Crest. Top price for the cull rams was £110 per head from RF & DJ Price Pentrenant. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat lambs at approximately 12noon.    

STORE LAMBS

A small entry of store lambs. Theave lambs achieving 340 from TD & EM Davies Neuadd Hendidley. Tup lambs achieved £41 from J V Davies & Co Garth Fawr.

A large entry of 186 cade lambs averaged £5.18. Top price of £18 was achieved by D R Owen & Sons Sandilands.

A Small entry of ewes with lambs at foot. Welsh Full mouth and as found ewes with lambs at foot achieved £60 from D Roberts Trefi Fawr.

Sale of Store Lambs to commence at 10.30am with sale of In lamb Ewes, Couples and Cade Lambs Next Monday 1^st April 2013.

DAIRY COWS

An entry of 6 Dairy cattle met with a slightly easier trade with less people around the ring due to the weather. Leading the way was Phil Jones Lane Farm at £1890 and £1540 for two Riverdane Sizzler daughters. Two Brown Swissx heifers from PW Pritchard & K A Loake Cefnhelin sold for £1740 and £1400. A 2^nd calver from Mike Williams Wern Holdings sold at £1200. A breakdown of prices achieved where as follows: £1800 + 1 lot, £1600 - £1800 1 lot, £1400 - £1600 3 lots, less than £1400 1 Lot.
