Welshpool Olympian Adele Nicoll has one foot already in the fourth, and final, run of the Winter Olympic Games Monobob after holding 13th overnight from two exceptional heats yesterday.
After we previously understood that a top 10 finish was required after three heats, Adele’s mum, Justine, confirmed from track side that a top 20 will be enough to reach the final heat tonight (Monday).
The 29-year-old showed just why she deserves her Team GB spot amongst the world’s best in Cortina, Italy, by finishing comfortably in mid-table on the standings after her two runs were completed in a time of two minutes and 83 seconds.
Adele finished her second heat in 10th, having finished 16th in her first to move to 13th overall in the standings ahead of the third heat at 6pm this evening, followed by the final run featuring the top 20 at 8.06pm.
It was a memorable day for the Welshpool area which was collectively watching the action unfold, and her mum said it was “truly magical”.
“What a fantastic atmosphere today was!” Justine told us last night. “The GB flags were being waved all around the venue. It was electric. Watching her step out of that sled after her first run was truly magical, she was an Olympian!”
Adele is 1.71 seconds behind the leader and gold medal favourite Laura Nolte, from Germany.
