Two people taken to hospital following road accident

Two people have been taken to hospital following this morning's traffic accident near Newtown.

Emergency services were called to the collision at 6.30am on the A483 between Abermule and Aberbechan, closing the road for several hours.

One motorist who was trapped their their car was airlifted to hospital in Stoke by the Wales Air Ambulance. Another was taken by road to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Servicxe said a fire crew from Newtown was sent to the accident and used hydraulic cutting gear to release one of the motorists. They then left the scene at 8.20am.

Local roads were left in gridlock following the accident as commuters attempted to find alternative routes.
