Well-known local woman Gaynor Hughes has been named Guilsfield Show President for 2023.

Gaynor (pictured second right), who has been attending Guilsfield Show since she was a young girl, said she is “honoured” to be named this year’s Show President.

The event, which has grown in size and stature in recent years, will take place on Fron-Y-Fele Field, Groeslwyd, by kind permission of Mr Trevor Trevor, on Thursday, August 10.

“Having been born into a farming family in the Guilsfield area I have attended the show from an early age, so I am delighted and honoured to have been asked to be the Show President,” said Gaynor.

“Guilsfield Show is a real family social event where there is something of interest for all ages and, together with my family, I am very much looking forward to seeing you on the day.

“Like every other show, we are dependent on competitors to make it successful. Each year, the standard and number of entries in all sections has increased and we look forward with anticipation to welcoming our regular exhibitors and to meeting new ones.”

Guilsfield Show aims to raise money for charitable causes each year and part of the Presidents’ role is to nominate the charities.

Gaynor has nominated the RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital (Welshpool Branch) and McMillan Cancer Support as the show’s chosen charities for 2023.

Last year’s Show Presidents, John and Sally Jones (pictured each side of Gaynor), nominated the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund and the RJAH Orthopaedic League of Friends (Welshpool Branch), and recently they donated £500 to each charity. Meanwhile, the proceeds of the dog show were donated to Guilsfield Church and totalled £85.

As the longstanding Chairperson of the RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital League of Friends (Welshpool Brnach), Gaynor said: “I am delighted that the show will support this charity once more along with McMillan Cancer Support. We are sure you will agree they are very worthy causes.”
