Neuadd Maldwyn to open Spring 2024

22/02/2023 @ 02:01

Work to transform the former county council offices in Welshpool into a new independent living scheme for older people has been given a resounding thumbs-up from councillors who received a tour.

Ahead of an open day on Thursday (February 23) for potential residents to visit a similar property in Wrexham, ClwydAlyn opened the doors of Neuadd Maldwyn to councillors who were impressed.

County Councillor Graham Breeze called it a “fantastic scheme”, while Town Councillor Julie Arnold said it was “just what Welshpool needs”.

ClwydAlyn, in conjunction with Powys County Council, is developing 66 self-contained one and two-bedroom high quality apartments for rent, for individuals aged 60 years and over with an assessed care or support need.

The scheme includes communal facilities for events and activities, a restaurant, onsite parking and landscaped areas.

A spokesperson from ClwydAlyn said: “The development of Neuadd Maldwyn in Welshpool is progressing well and will be completed in Spring 2024. In the meantime, why not take up this fantastic opportunity to see what a functioning independent living scheme for older people is like!”

That opportunity comes tomorrow (Thursday) from 2pm at Maes y Dderwen, in Wrexham, with an opportunity to wonder around the facilities and chat to residents and the Scheme Manager.

Maes y Dderwen is also for people aged 60 years and over with an assessed care and support need. For more information, click here, and visits can also be arranged on another day to suit.

If you would like arrange a visit to Maes Y Dderwen on Thursday, 23 Febuary, please contact the scheme on 01978 356978  or 07917 067433 and the scheme manager will gladly book you in.
