Montgomeryshire MP, Craig Williams, is backing calls to speed up improvements to mobile connectivity to boost the local economy.
Mr Williams attended an event in parliament organised by Speed Up Britain, a cross-industry organisation working to deliver better mobile connectivity across the UK through targeted changes to the Electronic Communications Code and working with landowners.
The campaign aims to accelerate improvements to the UK’s mobile connectivity, enabling both the Shared Rural Network (which will deliver 4G coverage to 95% of the UK) and next-generation 5G technology.
“The pandemic has highlighted just how vital mobile connectivity is, especially within a rural constituency such as ours,” he said. “Improving our connectivity and mobile coverage is a key priority for me, and would bring huge social and economic benefits to residents and businesses across Montgomeryshire.
“The UK Government has already shown its commitment to levelling up the digital playing field across the whole of the UK with the Shared Rural Network, which will ensure that many more of us across Montgomeryshire can look forward to sweeping coverage of fast and reliable 4G within our homes and when out and about.
“We now need to ensure that such improvements to our mobile connectivity are accelerated, and I look forward to the forthcoming Product Security and Telecommunications Bill which I hope will deliver the necessary changes as quickly as possible.”
