Jones wins at windswept Welshpool

Blustery conditions welcomed the players for The Transport Maintenance Cup on at the weekend at Welshpool Golf Club with a countback required after three were tied at the top on 70. Mark Jones (9) got the nod ahead of Gary Laflain (11) and Ken Stephens (7) in third.

 

The Arthur Barrett Cup was won by Rhydian Jones (27) 63, second James Brown (28) 66, and third Don Lewis (21) 74.

 

The ladies continued their great start to the season with a win at Knighton in their first league match after winning all three games.

 

The Mid Wales ladies team of three competition held at Borth was won by Ann Downes Evans, Linda Aldridge, and Sue Schmilt.

 

Meanwhile, at home the first ladies medal of the year was won by in-form Ann Downes Evans (24), with a score of 73. Jayne Mitchell (27) was second on 78.

 

A rest week at the club enabled members to fine tune their form for this week’s start of the 2011 Summer Nett & Gross Leagues. The leagues will continue over the next 26 weeks when members can play their round on either a Tuesday or Wednesday.

 

This Sunday sees the Club host the April Monthly Medal. An entry sheet is displayed on the notice board, with a 10.30am attendance requested for an 11am tee-off.

 

This year’s Handicap Secretary’s Cup and Pairs Matchplay Championship have commenced with a full list of the draw also displayed in the clubhouse.
