Welshpool’s extraordinary ‘Longest Yarn’ announces late night openings

The incredible depiction of World War II through knitted exhibitions called ‘The Longest Yarn’ will be open for evening viewings in Welshpool over its final 10 days, it has been announced.

Thousands of people have visited the exhibition so far at the Town Hall, with it running for the entire length of September.

And with many people unable to attend for its day time opening, organiser Alan Crowe has included a few late-night opportunities for its final 10 days, as follows:

Monday 21st till 8pm.

Tuesday 22nd till 6pm.

Wednesday 23rd till 8pm.

Thursday 24th till 6pm.

Monday 28th till 8pm

Tuesday 29th till 6pm

Last day, Wednesday 30^th, closes 3pm

With Welshpool hosting the annual 1940s Weekend next week, it is expected to get even busier so the advice is not to leave it too late. Entry is by donation, with the recommended minimum amount being £5.

The Longest Yarn Fringe is being held on the sidelines with this week’s highlights including: talks on Private Godfrey’s real war Noel Coward plus Major Challoner Haven’t You Done Enough on Thursday.

Whilst on Monday the film ‘Carve Her Name With Pride’ about SOE Agent Violette Szabo will be shown in the Corn Exchange at 7pm, followed by a Q&A session with Violette’s daughter, Tania, who was only three when her mum was executed by the Nazis.

Meanwhile, anyone willing to help pack up the exhibition is asked to report to the Town Hall from 3.30pm on Wednesday, September 30 or 9am on Thursday October 1.
