Medical no-shows placing strain on local services

06/08/2026 @ 08:54

Welshpool Medical Practice has highlighted the shocking number of no-shows for July in a bid to urge people to cancel in future if they can’t attend.

Dozens of appointments were missed, including four urgent on-the-day appointments that had been allocated following urgent requests for same-day medical help.

In their appeal for common sense, the Practice statement said that: “These appointments could have been offered to other patients waiting for care.

“If you are unable to attend your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer it to someone else. Even a few hours’ notice can make a real difference.

“Thank you to everyone who lets us know when they can no longer attend. Your support helps us make the best use of NHS resources and improve access for all our patients.”

What makes the no-shows even more bizarre is the fact that each patient receives two text message appointment reminders.

The appointments missed were:

·      30 GP face-to-face appointments

·      25 Blood test appointments

·      38 Practice Nurse appointments

·      15 Health Care Assistant appointments

·      4 Diabetic assessment appointments

·      4 Urgent on-the-day appointments that had been allocated after patients contacted us for same-day medical help.
