Dog walkers are being reminded that their pets are still banned from parkland surrounding Powis Castle and Garden, despite the property itself easing the ban on its grounds.
The National Trust property is trialling extended dog-friendly access within the Castle gardens for the summer season, a move that has been widely welcomed.
But Powis Estates, who manage the parkland surrounding the historical building have reiterated that due to the deer herd and other wildlife, their ban remains in place.
In a statement issued, they reminded: “You may have seen that Powis Castle and Garden NT/YG Castell a Gardd Powis are trialling extended dog-friendly access within the Castle gardens for the summer season. It is a positive step for visitors wishing to enjoy more of the site with their dogs.
“We would like to gently clarify that the parkland surrounding Powis Castle, including the deer park and wider estate, is privately owned and managed by Powis Estates.
“A permissive route for walkers is available along the tarmac drive; however, to safeguard the welfare of our deer herd and other wildlife, dogs are not permitted anywhere within the deer park or wider parkland, whether on or off a lead, at any time.
“If you are visiting Powis Castle with a dog, please do drive directly to the National Trust car park.
“We kindly ask all visitors to respect these arrangements when planning their visit to Powis Castle and we are grateful for your support in helping protect this historic landscape and its wildlife.”
