Just one person showed up to Welshpool litter pick

Welshpool’s spring clean failed to capture the imagination of local residents after it was reported that just one person showed up to an event last week.

Welshpool Town Council organised two litter picks covering Oldford and an area from the Welshpool Information Centre.

And while three people showed up to support Powys County Council and Town Council teams on Oldford, only one showed up to the latter.

“Sadly, attendance was not brilliant at either of them,” Cllr Bill Rowell told councillors at the latest Events & Planning Committee meeting. “But we did move a seriously amount of stuff at Oldford.

“The one from the Information Centre was even less well supported. We had one member of the community. But, between us we covered the whole area we intended to and moved a lot of stuff that had been there for a long time.”

The Keep Wales Tidy Spring Clean Cymru encourages communities to do their bit, and Cllr Rowell confirmed that he was aware of others doing clean-ups outside of the two organised litter picks.

He also added that he has requested an item to be added to the next full council meeting calling for Litter and Tidiness Champions to be nominated.
