Scores of new saplings have been planted at the Bull Dingle, a woodland in the heart of Welshpool that was flattened due to safety concerns last summer.
Powys County Council came in for ferocious criticism after scores of trees were ripped down over a two-month period, leaving a ghastly looking scar where wildlife once flourished.
But following the outrage, the regional authority ran an intensive PR campaign to explain why the work was done and to reassure residents and wildlife lovers that a new woodland would be planted.
However, our awful winter weather has created its fair share of problems and delayed the replanting.
But at this week’s Welshpool Town Council meeting, Cllr Bill Rowell, whose house backs on to the area, said that replanting had started, and this photo was shared by local Powys councillor, Graham Breeze.
“They are very small, spindly trees, but they seem to have been very well put in and I am happy with that,” said Cllr Rowell.
Councillors agreed to keep the Bull Dingle as a monthly item on the full council agenda to monitor progress.
