Welshpool elite athlete Adele Nicoll faces an anxious wait over the next 24 hours to discover whether she has been included in the Team GB squad for the Winter Olympics taking place in Milano Cortina, Italy, from February 6-22.

Adele started the season with a serious injury, but has gradually improved her results in both the monobob and the two-woman bobsleigh to push for top 10 finishes in the World Cup events.

She then achieved gold and silver medals in the Europa Cup last week in Austria, and then secured a bronze in the two-woman bobsleigh to show selectors that she is reaching peak form.

But the decision is now out of her hands with the bobsleigh team expected to be announced tomorrow (Thursday).

If selected, Adele will join an intensive training camp from Monday to prepare for the Olympics with Team GB officials keen to land as many medals as possible.

Adele’s journey to this point has been remarkable. Having established herself as Britain’s best shot putter, she decided to take on bobsleigh alongside her summer commitments in athletics.

She attended the last Winter Olympics as part of the Team GB team, but didn’t get to compete.
