Poundland: No plans to leave Welshpool

08/10/2025 @ 08:58

Poundland has reassured Welshpool that it is not closing its store in the town and has described rumours as “false”.

Readers became concerned after a “to let” sign appeared on the cut-price retailer’s 4 Berriew Street premises, prompting the rumour mill to spill out stories of ‘deliveries being stopped’ and the like.

But this has been rubbished by Poundland’s press office who told us this morning: “There’s no change. Poundland has no plans to leave the store and it’s a matter for the landlord as to their intentions for the building.

“Deliveries have not been stopped. That’s false.”

It is not clear why the building owner has placed the property on the rental market for £60,000 with Halls  when it already has a tenant, and has also said it is open to it being purchased outright.

Earlier this summer, Poundland confirmed that they would not be closing its Welshpool store despite the plan to cull 68 of its 800 stores across the UK to try and turn around the company’s financial woes.
