Caroline Howells, known professionally as Cici Howells, a Welshpool-born artist, has achieved a world first by choreographing a unique, sold-out performance at Birmingham Symphony Hall.

The event featured a back-to-back presentation by Kimichi Symphony Orchestra & Kimichi Ballet of all three of Igor Stravinsky’s iconic ballets: PetrushkaThe Firebird, and The Rite of Spring, performed with dancers – a feat believed to be unprecedented.

Cici, who attended Ysgol Bro Llanfair, Ysgol Uwchradd Caereinion, and Welshpool High School, before training at the Musical Theatre Academy in London, has made her mark on the international stage.

A fluent Welsh speaker and multi-talented musician, proficient in brass, wind, keyboards, and guitar, she also sings and dances professionally.

Her extensive experience spans performances across the UK, Europe, and North America.

Currently residing in the Midlands, she also shares her expertise through teaching.

“It’s been an experience,” Cici told BBC West Midlands.

“When I had the call, I was honoured to have been chosen. I have danced in two of the performances and choreographed one so to be asked to do all three, I felt incredibly honoured.

“What I loved was bringing so many different people together. All of them under the age of 18, and as young as 11.”

The sold-out performance at the world-renowned Birmingham Symphony Hall (capacity 2,262) showcased Cici’s innovative choreography, seamlessly weaving together Stravinsky's revolutionary scores with dynamic dance interpretations.

The ambitious project marks a significant milestone in the performing arts, bringing a fresh perspective to these classic works.

It has drawn widespread praise from the critics, with one describing it as the “icing on the cake”.
