Ten years after we first reported that KFC would be coming to Welshpool, the fast food giant has vowed to be a ‘good neighbour’ when it opens its new store with the promise of up to 40 new jobs.
In 2015, we revealed that KFC was recruiting for a new Welshpool branch, and following McDonald’s arrival on the outskirts of the town in 2021, the fried chicken specialists have confirmed that they will be joining them on the Buttington roundabout development.
McDonald’s arrival has brought plenty of controversy, with extra litter, traffic and parking problems blighting their opening four years.
But KFC told us they intend to be a ‘good neighbour’ in Welshpool with a food donation programme distributing surplus food to local people in need and their own team regularly carrying out litter picks.
A KFC spokesperson said: “KFC is officially coming to Welshpool! We’re so excited to be opening a brand-new restaurant in Buttington, creating new jobs and bringing our famous fried chicken to fans across the area. We can’t wait to be part of the Welshpool community and to start serving customers soon.”
The company said that 40 new jobs will be created for people living in the local area, and it addressed obesity and unhealthy food concerns by saying full-sugar Pepsi won’t be served in Welshpool and that the menu will include a range of healthier choices.
