Oscar winning cinematographer Laurie ‘Lol’ Crawley has promised pupils from his former school that he will celebrated his tremendous accolade with them at a special homecoming event.
Lol followed up his Bafta award by winning the Oscar in Hollywood for Best Cinematography for The Brutalist, making it a fortnight to remember for the former pupil of Ysgol Llanfyllin.
And following his award, Lol, who was born in Shrerwsbury and raised in Llansantffraid, told the BBC he is looking forward to a journey ‘home’ from his Los Angeles base.
“I am very, very proud,” said Lol. “It doesn’t seem that long since I was there (Wales) to be honest. I have a huge affection for that country and I am going to go back to Ysgol Llanfyllin and do a talk with the assembly.”
The award has underlined Lol’s position as one of the industry's finest cinematographers with The Brutalist becoming the latest success in a lengthening list of critically acclaimed films that he has worked on.
After attending Ysgol Llanfyllin, Lol went on to study at Oswestry College and completed a BTEC National Diploma in Audio Visual Studies at The North East Wales Institute, before studying at Northumbria University, where he earned a BA Hons.
