Former Newtown Mayor Richard Williams has been appointed as the new Town Clerk for Welshpool.

Mr Williams will fill the position that was vacated last year by the sudden departure of Anne Wilson, and brings with him a wealth of experience in local politics.

Welshpool Mayor, Cllr Phil Owen, said: “I am delighted to welcome Richard to the council staff and look forward to working with him.

“He brings knowledge and skills gained from previous appointments, including having recently served as clerk to the Valuations Tribunal of Wales and having also served a term as mayor of Newtown.”

Richard has worked in the public sector since 2012, gaining extensive experience in local government and public law.

He holds an undergraduate degree in Law and lives nearby in Llanfair Caereinion with his wife and two children.

Richard said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Welshpool Town Council as its new Town Clerk. Welshpool is a fantastic town with a strong sense of community, independent businesses and fantastic visitor experiences.

“I look forward to working with the team to build on its strengths and help make Welshpool an even more vibrant and welcoming place for residents and visitors alike.”
