Welshpool Town Council won’t take on Wiggly Path

22/02/2025 @ 09:48

Welshpool Town Council has decided that the Wiggly Path just isn’t worth their while to manage, raising new concerns over the future of the popular pathway.

Powys County Council is keen to offload the shortcut linking Red Bank to the town centre, but they will have to look elsewhere after the Town Council decided it would be too costly and time consuming to take on.

The decision was discussed at the latest Strategy, Policy and Development Committee meeting, which we were unable to cover due to issues over the Zoom link.

However, in the minutes released since, it shows that a decision was made that “Welshpool Town Council should not take on the Wiggly Path, due to the council’s finances and the condition of the path”.

It is believed that some councillors were in discussion with local wildlife organisations with a view to a joint management venture for the site, but this was not recorded in the minutes.
