A new and modern style of community team is being launched in Welshpool for the whole area.
Welshpool Impact is the short ‘action’ name for the new Welshpool Impact Rotaract which is a Rotary programme under the global Rotary International family, but doesn’t have the high financial burden of being a full Rotary member.
Rotaract was originally founded in the United States in 1968 as a programme under the Rotary International umbrella, Rotaract came to the UK and Ireland in the early 1970s.
There are currently nearly 203.3k members in 11,000 Rotaract teams across 180 countries worldwide and members will be welcome to visit anyone of them on your holidays!
The purpose of Rotaract (Rotary Action) is to provide an opportunity for people to have fun with likeminded people, to have the chance to volunteer in the local community, to learn new soft skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.
They say that they are ‘just ordinary people who have come together as a group of individuals aged 18 plus, who want to make a positive impact on society who believe in the power of unity and collaboration to help in projects within our community for the benefit of others or our environment. Join us to improve the lives of those around us’.
Mike Lade, from Welshpool Impact, said: “Members come from all backgrounds, ages, beliefs, religions and sexual orientation and we aim to reflect the community but we are a non-religious and non-political group. Fully diverse so anyone of good character is welcome to join us so do come along to our ‘information evening’ to find out more about Welshpool Impact and what it has to offer.”
There are two information sessions at The Old Bakehouse, in Welshpool at 6.30pm for 7pm on Wednesday, February 26 and Wednesday, March 12, to hear more about who they are, what they want to achieve in the community and to ask questions.
Numbers are limited so they are asking people to reserve a seat via the on-line form off their web site - www.welshpoolimpact.com.
More information is available on Face Book @welshpoolimpact, contacting Mike on 07803 038858, or welshpoolimpact@gmail.com.
