Work set to begin on Banking Hub access ramp!

It’s been a long wait, but it has finally been revealed that the work can finally go ahead to install temporary disabled access at the Welshpool Banking Hub.

Welshpool became one of the first towns in Wales to welcome a Banking Hub in 2023 after all of the major banks pulled out of the town.

Each major bank takes a day a week at the site to carry out face-to-face banking, with counter services available to all customers throughout the week.

But the lack of disabled access and ATM has soured the success story, with a protest even held outside the branch by one wheelchair user last year.

We contacted Cash Access, who run the services, for an update last night and this afternoon they have revealed: “Welshpool Banking Hub is due to be closed on Monday, February 10, while we undertake works to improve access. We should only be closed for one day but if for any reason it’s any longer, or dates change, we will let you know.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused. While the hub is closed you can access free to use cash services from the ATMs nearby and the local Post Office - www.link.co.uk/cash-locator.

“We’re pleased these works will improve access. We hope to receive the permission we need and to install a permanent ramp over the summer. We can then also install an ATM to provide Welshpool residents with 24/7 access to cash.

“We are sorry for the delays there have been in bringing these improvements to your Banking Hub. There have been a number of practical challenges and complexities to navigate, and we remain fully committed to improving the accessibility of the hub.”
