There is more tragic news reaching us this afternoon with confirmation that a second company has suffered a work-based tragedy this week.

Churchstoke-based Montgomery Waters confirmed that a contractor sadly died on site following a “tragic accident” on Monday, the same day that driver, John Prodger, 65, died at Wynnstay (Agricultural Supplies) Ltd at Llansantffraid.

Montgomery Waters said in a statement: “We can confirm that one of the contractors’ workers, working on a site development project at Montgomery Waters, was involved in a tragic accident on Monday, January 6, and since then we have been working closely with the local authorities and others to complete an investigation.

“The gentleman was airlifted by the Welsh Air Ambulance to Stoke Hospital, but sadly passed away later that evening.

“We would like to thank all emergency services who attended, and the staff who assisted during this incident. We will continue to support all staff involved, and we send our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.”

Monday's incident at Wynnstay was described by police as not suspicious, and is being investigated in partnership with the Health & Safety Executive. We have also asked Dyfed-Powys Police for comment regarding this latest tragic news at Montgomery Waters.
