The Welsh Government doesn’t look like it is interested in supporting a local community’s push for safety measures to be urgently installed at an accident blackspot.
That’s the feeling following a debate in the Senedd discussing a petition started by residents of Middletown who are fed up with regular accidents on the A458 outside Bank Farm.
In an update to residents, local county councillor, Amanda Jenner, said that “whilst it is positive that the petitions committee are willing to help us push for action”, she admitted it was “worrying and frustrating” that very little has been done.
“The petitions committee are happy to keep this petition open to push for updates on action,” she said. "At the moment though it looks like the recent CCTV monitoring has been inconclusive and so they are looking to do further work and again consider what actions they think will be proportionate.
“I will be making further representations to the committee in due course. Whilst it is positive that the petitions committee are willing to help us push for action, it is worrying and frustrating that a year down the line, despite all our efforts to date, all that has been done in terms of action (rather than monitoring) is to re-do the white lines like for like.
“I will continue to make representations and push for action to highlight the dangers of this stretch.”
Residents said they want, “at the very least”, flashing signage warning of the hidden dips, and the lines extended.
