An impressive £2,500 has been raised from the weekend’s Treorchy Male Voice Choir concert held at St Mary’s Church.
Organised by Alan Crowe for a charity that he holds close to his heart - the ENSA Memorial Appeal – and a number of other local causes will also benefit from the money raised after helping to sell tickets.
While ENSA, the charity that remembers entertainers involved in the wars, will received £1,500, the local causes will receive anything from £10 to £300, totalling another £1,000, including St Mary’s Church, Guilsfield Church, Welshpool Rotary Club, Pool Quay Church, Welshpool Town Juniors FC, Welshpool 1940s weekend and Welshpool Afternoon Flower Club, to name just a few.
Around 300 people attended the concert despite Storm Bert and Mr Crowe wanted to express his thanks to those who helped steward on the night, provide first aid cover and to Diane Parr and Titch at the Westwood who hosted the choir for refreshments afterwards.
Mr Crowe is currently trying to raise funds for a Falklands War Memorial Bench to go in the Garden of Remembrance in Howell Drive to honour those from Welshpool that served in the war. Thankfully, they all came home, but the appeal still has £400 left to raise, and any donations can be directed to Mr Crowe.
