Train problems to continue today

23/10/2024 @ 09:26

As investigations continue into the cause of Monday’s night’s fatal train crash near Llanbrynmair, the impact will continue to hit Welshpool passengers today.

A man in his 60s was sadly killed and four people were seriously injured when two trains collided at approximately 15mph, resulting in a widescale emergency response.

Train services were cancelled yesterday with buses put in place where possible, and Transport for Wales has again issued a warning for passengers going both ways out of Welshpool today.

“Services are expected to be cancelled or amended until the end of the day,” the company has updated this morning.

Buses will again be in place with passengers urged to check https://tfw.wales/places/stations.

Last night, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) said their initial investigations found evidence that wheel/rail adhesion was relatively low, suggesting that the train may have entered into wheel slide when braking.

The accident happened on a single track, 800m from a ‘passing loop’ where the trains should have passed.
