All Welshpool trains impacted today

All trains in and out of Welshpool are expected to be cancelled or at least impacted today following last night’s tragic train collision that resulted in the death of one man.

Fifteen people were also taken to hospital with non-life threatening or life changing injuries after what British Transport Police described as a “low-speed collision” between two trains at around 7.29pm between Talerddig and Llanbrynmair.

In an update to customers this morning, Transport for Wales said that “train services running between Machyllneth and Shrewsbury may be cancelled, delayed or amended” until the end of the day.

Coach services have already been put in place until the 14.07 Machyllneth to Shrewsbury service, with the rail operator saying that more are being sourced for the rest of the day and users should check before travelling.

Last night, a massive emergency response was launched following news of the collision. Coastguard helicopters joined air ambulances on the scene with British Transport Police taking over the response.

This morning Superintendent Andrew Morgan updated: “British Transport Police are working at pace, along with our colleagues in emergency services and the rail industry, to understand the circumstances leading up to this collision. Residents will see an increased policing presence in the area in the coming days as a result.”
