‘People want more events’

Welshpool Town Council will look at putting on more events for the town in the future after revealing that its Jerseys Live concert this Christmas is heading towards a sell-out.

The Jerseys Live takes place in the Town Hall on December 17, the pen-ultimate night of their 57-night UK tour, and at this week’s Strategy, Policy and Development meeting it was confirmed that only around 20 of the 200 tickets available are left.

“People have said they want more events for the town so this is a great thing,” said Cllr Nick Howells.

Tonight sees the town council also host a free fireworks display, which is expected to attract over 1,000 people, and councillors believe events like these can help to promote the town.

Town Mayor, Cllr Alison Davies said: “It is important that the Events Committee works closely with the tourism people.”

And Cllr Howells added: “There is a big crossover between events and tourism. The more we put on, the more tourism will improve.”
