Welshpool going bats for bugs!

08/05/2026 @ 10:12

The Welshpool Interact club have taken delivery of 10 bat boxes made by the Llanfyllin Men’s Shed to go with 10 bug hotels already in hand.

All of the boxes were provided from a grant gained from Powys Nature Partnership.

The club has gained permission to install four bat and four bug boxes in the wooded area aside the Tourist Information Council Building in Welshpool and they are working with the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway to install six bat and six bug boxes alongside the track.

Interact President Mike Lade said: “We are very grateful to the Powys Nature Partnership for the grant of the funds to purchase the boxes and to the Council and Light Railway for their co-operation in identifying suitable sites to install the boxes.

“The Environment is one of the seven Areas of Focus for Rotary and Rotaract. Not just in the UK, but worldwide in the 180+ countries where Rotary has over 1.2 million clubs.”

The Welshpool Rotaract club welcomes anyone of 18+ who wishes to drop in to an informal meeting to learn more about this Rotary membership option for a modern generation and they meet on the second and fourth Tuesday in the month in the back bar of The Royal Oak from 6.15pm until 7pm. Always check though as they also have social evenings at other venues.
