That’s it for me – but the show goes on!

The man behind the Parkinson’s Cymru 10x10k March Challenge has confirmed that he is stepping aside to let a new organiser take the reins.

Former head teacher Philip Jones (above) has been the driving force behind the challenge that saw people sign up to run/row/bike/walk and even SkiErg through 10 lots of 10kms over the past fortnight.

It culminated in yesterday’s Welshpool 10k which saw a group complete their challenges, with the amount of money raised almost touch £14,000.

It means that around £45,000 has been raised over the three years that is has been running, with all of the money supporting those living with Parkinson’s.

But Philip said it is the right time to step aside, with one of the participants taking part this year – Rhiannon Jones (pictured on the left) – picking up the baton to raise money for Cerebral Palsey.

“We set out three years ago with three aims,” said Philip this morning. “To raise awareness of Parkinson’s, to encourage people to exercise and if we raise money that would be a bonus.

“We have achieved all three in abundance and given the pressures on the health service and society in general, it feels right that we now help promote another amazing charity.

“The time is right to hand over the baton and I am delighted that Rhiannon has readily accepted to revamp the March Challenge.

“A huge and sincere thank-you to everyone who has been involved in this wonderful challenge and to all those who have donated and sponsored. Long may it continue.”
