Easter holidays: Boats, trains and automobiles!

14/04/2025 @ 07:55

The Welshpool area ‘springs’ into life this week for the Easter holidays with plenty to enjoy over the coming days, weeks and months!

Whilst our flagship tourist attraction Powis Castle will continue to play its part in bringing in the visitors to the town with special Easter family activities running, there are trips down the canal by narrowboat or leisurely through the countryside on the steam train to entertain us.

And, as we await confirmation, there is the possibility of drag racing taking part at the airport!

This Good Friday, the George Watson Buck narrowboat based on the Montgomery Canal in Llanymynech is due to restart 30-minute trips between England and Wales.

Based at the Llanymynech Canal Wharf in the Heritage Area, the boat trips are ideal for visitors and locals alike to learn more about the heritage and wildlife of the Montgomery Canal.

The wharf is run by volunteers from the Montgomery Waterway Restoration Trust charity.

You can find out more through https://themontgomerycanal.org.uk/llanymynech-canal-wharf.

Meanwhile, the Llanfair & Welshpool Light Railway is running an Easter Carrot Express from April 19-21, when travellers can meet the Easter Bunny, egg hunt and enjoy family entertainment and lots more, for the price of a standard ticket price. Child passengers receive a Chocolate Easter Egg too.

As previously reported, Welshpool could well be hosting this Easter fortnight its first drag racing event on the airport strip, and while we await possible confirmation for a date from organisers B.A. Customs you can book your spot here.
