Another story we couldn’t run earlier this week because of April Fool’s Day is the announcement that Welshpool Airport is potentially being used for a drag racing event later this month.
Organisers confirmed to us that they were serious, and that the town will be welcoming a high-octane day of entertainment on the runway strip, and it could become a monthly fixture.
“Yes, this is legit! We just happened to choose a bad day to announce it, but we will be hosting the event towards the end of this month, and we are currently in the process of setting up a booking website,” a spokesperson for organisers, B A Customs, told us.
Whilst we await an exact date, pending initial interest, organisers said the April event is likely to be on a weekday from 4am-9pm, with some of the money raised going to the Wales Air Ambulance.
And it may not be a one-off, with more dates being looked at for future months, including weekends.
So how would it work?
Anyone interested in having a go, should contact B A Customs on the details below, with three runs in your own vehicle expected to cost £50, with an entry of £15 per vehicle for spectators.
It is based on time sprints and not head-to-head and there will be drone footage and photographers on site.
