James heads stateside

Guilsfield greenkeeper and talented golfer James Hampson is part of a hand-picked workforce that will deliver one of the world’s top golf tournaments this week in the USA.

James, who has worked at Llanymynech Golf Club, was chosen as one of only six from a lengthy application process involving hundreds of greenkeepers from across the UK.

He is part of a volunteer workforce that will help to deliver The Players Championship, at TPC Sawgrass, also known as the ‘fifth major’.

James is representing British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) and John Deere at the championship, and will be working alongside other greenkeepers from around the world who are regarded as among the best in the industry.

This is his second trip to the USA. Last year, James was selected to go to Phoenix to represent BIGGA and Bernhards at the turf industry’s most prestigious Trade Show and Conference.

As well as being a talented greenkeeper, James is also one of the area’s top golfers, playing off +1.
