The 8x10km Challenge for Parkinson’s Cymru is gathering momentum with the award-winning film makers of Welshpool High School releasing a video this week to promote the event.

Created by former Ysgol Caereinion Head, Philip Jones, the challenge will see him complete eight 10km runs in eight days, starting in Welshpool, on Sunday, March 16 and finishing at the Welshpool 10k the following week.

It has captured the imagination of the area already, with plenty of people pledging to run at least one of the legs, or taking on the challenge in other ways by walking, or even rowing 10k.

Schools across the area have also signed up to support, including Welshpool High School whose talented quartet of Evan Haine, Noah Dearing, Ryan Davies and Henry Seddon have released a powerful video.

It features a number of characters sharing their stories, including Head, Jon Arnold, and MyTown Media Co-founder, David Williams.

You can watch the video by clicking here.

“The pupils have produced a wonderful piece of work that highlights just how important it is to exercise and to raise awareness about this disease that in some way impacts us all,” said Mr Jones.

Last month, the same four students won the Docathon Wales competition for a moving documentary that focussed on a Ukrainian refugee who was now calling the area home.

The challenge has already raised an impressive £7,500, and we will share details of the eight 10k runs early next week. The first one on Sunday, March 16, which starts from Morrison’s Car Park and heads down the canal and back, is open to anyone, with just a donation to Parkinson’s Cymru welcomed.
