The husband and wife couple behind the hugely successful Welshpool Illuminated Tractor Run say they may not be done yet!
Jenny and Kevin Clarke created the event as something for their own son, and other local youngsters, to enjoy, but it has turned into a huge family festival with thousands taking to the streets to watch. Due to family and other commitments, they said this year would be their last.
Storm Darragh and a traffic accident pushed their organisational skills to the limit this time around, but with the dust settling they have admitted there could be another edition!
“As for doing it again next year…. never say never!” Jenny told us last night. “But we will get Christmas out the way and in the New Year, have some meetings to see if the event can run in 2025!”
“We were faced with several dilemmas this weekend and having to make decisions on the spot was tricky. Hopefully we managed to overcome the issues and satisfy everyone’s excitement.
“With just short of 200 tractors taking part we were very grateful, and extending our route to reach Middletown at the last minute proved to be a huge success as many folk came out to support it, with just a few hours’ notice!
“This wasn’t as easy as it sounds either, having to get confirmation from the authorities, change risk assessments and inform residents by knocking one by one to inform them, we managed it within hours.
“But seeing everyone’s faces made the stresses worthwhile! It seems to have pleased everyone in some way. Also having people travel from Cardiff and the West Midlands to come see the spectacle was amazing.
“Thank you to all our sponsors, volunteers, donors of raffle prizes and most importantly the farmers who came out in their decorated and illuminated tractors in their hoards, as without them, it simply wouldn’t be an event.”
