For many years, well known Welshpool resident Ruth Canning spent endless hours sprucing up a part of town that would have otherwise fallen into an overgrown mess.
Ruth was passionate about Welshpool and she did her bit by cleaning, tidying and replanting at the fountain on Severn Road, next to the police station.
Sadly, Ruth passed away earlier this year, but friends and family have picked up the baton and returned to the spot this past few days to continue Ruth’s work.
“Ruth took it upon herself to watch over the often-neglected Welshpool historic place,” said her brother, Tim Platt.
Tim and Ruth’s husband, Martin Canning, were joined by Avril Hart and Dean Fairchild in cleaning the site and replanting in memory of Ruth, whose birthday would have been last week.
“I hope that with the renewal of the Neuadd Maldwyn across the road, will ensure the environment of Severn Road can be kept tidy for passers-by and tourists entering the town for years to come,” said Tim.
