‘Experience Day’ at Welshpool Fire Station

20/05/2024 @ 06:46

Welshpool Fire Station is throwing open its doors to promote the service to potential new recruits next month.

On June 15, the station said it is planning an “exciting session filled with hands-on experiences and insights into the world of firefighting”.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is responsible for providing emergency response cover to nearly 12,000 square kms - almost two-thirds of Wales.

On-Call Firefighters are an essential part of the service with 75% of local fire stations, like Welshpool are crewed entirely by On-Call Firefighters.

During the session, there will be an opportunity to try on the firefighting kit, learn how to assemble equipment and take part in a practical exercise.

The Welshpool Fire Station crew will also be on hand to answer any questions and give an insight into life as a firefighter.

You can book your place here.

The Firefighter Experience Day will include:

  • an overview the role of a modern-day firefighter
  • trying on the firefighting kit and equipment
  • the various aspects of the recruitment process
  • the importance of fitness and maintaining fitness
  • the various types of equipment and PPE
  • career pathways and role maps
